Dean EnricoWelcome from Dean Enrico

Welcome to the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts. I hope you find this website helpful as an introduction to our college and our programs of study. The name of our college recognizes the extraordinary contributions of the Weitzenhoffer family to our college and our university. Support for the arts at the University of Oklahoma begins at the top. We enjoy the strong support of President David L. Boren, who has frequently expressed his belief that a university education should stimulate not only the mind, but also the spirit. The fine arts are a vital part of the educational process. Our College maintains high professional standards of artistic training and scholarship in all units.

At the School of Art, Paul Moore is our Sculptor-in-Residence and Shawnee Brittan is our Film Maker-in-Residence. Distinguished visiting artists are also in residence each year. The School of Art is also home to the Charles M. Russell Center for the Study of Art of the American West.

The School of Dance, which in 2001 celebrated its 40th anniversary, is among the top three university dance programs in the country, according to both Dance and Pointe magazines. Opened in 2005, the new Donald W. Reynolds Performing Arts Center includes a 18,000 square-foot dance facility.

The School of Drama produces an exciting lineup of dramas, comedies, and historic works. Season offerings at the Rupel Jones Theatre are listed here.

The School of Music has completed the restoration and enlargement of historic Holmberg Hall, where opera and dance productions take place in our new opera house in the Donald W. Reynolds Performing Arts Center. The nearby Catlett Music Center houses the Morris R. Pitman Recital Hall, the Paul F. Sharp Concert Hall the Grayce B. Kerr Gothic Hall, and the American Organ Institute.

The Weitzenhoffer Department of Musical Theatre produces two major musicals each year. The department recruits students nationally and is one of the finest musical theater programs in the United States.

The College of Fine Arts offers student and parents an educational bargain. Even for those paying out-of-state tuition, the cost of an arts education is significantly lower than at private schools and conservatories of comparable quality, and even at comparable public universities.

The College of Fine Arts produces nearly 300 concerts, recitals, dramas, musicals, operas and dance performances each year, as well as numerous art exhibitions. Students have ample opportunity not only to attend, but also to participate in these events. The Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts is an exciting place to prepare for a career in the arts. We look forward to seeing you here!
